Multinational corporations export a standardised consumer culture that marginalises local customs, from fast-food chains replacing traditional eateries to Hollywood films crowding out domestic cinema. For younger generations in particular, the allure of global pop culture often overshadows inherited practices, creating a cultural disconnect between them and their elders.

On the other hand, globalisation has also become a powerful tool for cultural preservation and exchange. The internet enables communities to document and share their traditions with a global audience that was previously unreachable. Indigenous artists now sell traditional crafts through e-commerce platforms, sustaining both their livelihoods and their heritage. Cultural tourism, driven by global interest in authentic experiences, has incentivised governments to protect historical sites and fund traditional arts. South Korea's cultural export strategy — from K-pop to Korean cuisine — demonstrates that globalisation need not mean cultural dilution; it can be a vehicle for projecting local identity onto the world stage.

In conclusion, globalisation is neither purely destructive nor purely beneficial to local cultures. Its impact depends largely on how communities and governments respond — whether they passively consume global culture or actively leverage global platforms to celebrate and sustain their own heritage.
